Domestic Violence Services, Awareness and Community Education Program
The Domestic Violence Program provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, from a multidisciplinary and culturally specific approach. The goal of the program is to lessen the impact of victimization, to identify the needs of victims and their families, regardless of age, gender or sexual identity, to assist in meeting the identified needs, to raise awareness and to provide education events and trainings for the community.
Victim services are confidential and person-centered. The following services are offered through the domestic violence program, but are not limited to:
- short term counseling
- information and referrals
- safety planning
- criminal justice support and advocacy
- emotional support
- personal advocacy
- emergency need funds
- transportation assistance
- domestic violence education
- child support advocacy
- emergency housing/shelter assistance
The domestic violence program coordinates with other Tribal Government programs and service providers, including shelters, in the five-county service area, to gain knowledge of additional resources and referrals that are available for victims of domestic violence and their families.
Indian Child Welfare Program
The Indian Child Welfare program seeks to protect the best interest of Indian children, promote the stability and security of Tribal Citizens and families and follow established federal and Tribal standards for removal and placement of Indian children. Case management is provided to enrolled citizens of Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians and their descendants. Eligible persons include enrolled, or eligible for enrollment for children under the age of 18. The Tribe in which the child is a member or eligible for membership does not need to be the same Tribe in which the parent is a member.
Case management services that will be offered, may include but are not limited to:
- assistance with developing a service plan
- participation in custody proceedings and family meetings
- consultation with extended family members
- family interaction/visitation
- provide community resources that are culturally competent and relevant
- assistance with client progress and needs through an approved committee board.
